reading specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate  Reading Tutor to provide individualized instruction to students with reading difficulties, including those with dyslexia. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Orton-Gillingham approach, exceptional teaching skills, and a passion for helping students achieve literacy success. Would be nice to have some Orton-Gillingham training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized  reading instruction to students of varying ages and skill levels.

  • Assess students' reading skills, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and develop tailored lesson plans.

  • Implement multisensory teaching techniques to engage students in phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills.

  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction methods to meet evolving needs.

  • Provide a supportive and encouraging learning environment to build students' confidence and motivation.

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to align tutoring sessions with students' overall learning goals.

  • Stay current with strategies, research, and best practices.

  • Stay updated on best practices in education, including special education techniques for diverse learners.

 

Qualifications:​

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or a related field (preferred).

  • Previous experience working with students with dyslexia or other reading challenges (preferred).

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, families, and educators.

  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to cater to diverse learning styles and needs.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with other structured literacy programs or approaches (e.g., Wilson, Barton).

  • Knowledge of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and working with students with special needs.

  • Proficiency in virtual teaching platforms, if offering remote instruction.
