Reading Specialist

503-908-6120

Before joining the Sunbreak team, I spent five years as an elementary school teacher, primarily teaching second and third grade. Throughout my time in the classroom, I provided small-group literacy instruction rooted in the Science of Reading to students ranging from kindergarten through fourth grade, helping readers build strong foundational skills, confidence, and a love of learning. Additionally, I have experience supporting middle school readers and writers. As an Orton-Gillingham certified teacher and reading specialist, I am dedicated to making the English language accessible, engaging, and empowering for every student.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping children uncover the fascinating history and etymology behind the English language, showing students the stories behind words, how they are connected through patterns, origins, and meaning, and helping them discover that English is more like an amazing puzzle than a list of rules to memorize. I strive to make learning to read a multi-sensory, imaginative, engaging, interest-based, and joyful experience so that reading and spelling patterns truly stick. Watching students become "word detectives," develop confidence in their abilities, and experience the joy of falling in love with reading for the first time is the most rewarding part of my work.

Every child's reading journey is unique, and I believe that with structured, explicit instruction, individualized support, and a strong partnership with families, every child can make meaningful progress and take pride in their growth.

When I'm not teaching, you'll usually find me trying a new recipe or restaurant, exploring the outdoors, getting lost in a good book, or working on a creative craft project
