Learning Social Skills Through Play, Connection, and Joy
Group Theraplay® is a play-based, therapist‑led social skills group designed for elementary‑aged children who benefit from extra support with peer interaction, emotional regulation, and confidence. Using fun, interactive activities, children learn and practice positive social skills by doing, not by talking about them.
Group Theraplay focuses on four core elements found in healthy relationships:
Structure – clear, predictable routines that help children feel safe
Engagement – joyful, face‑to‑face interactions that build connection
Nurture – warm, caring experiences that support regulation and self‑esteem
Challenge – playful opportunities to practice cooperation, turn‑taking, and flexibility
Through games, movement, rhythm, and cooperative play, children develop:
Attention, cooperation, and turn‑taking
Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance
Confidence in social situations
Positive peer interactions and group participation
Groups are adult‑directed and highly interactive, creating a supportive environment where children experience success, belonging, and shared joy. Group Theraplay is especially helpful for children who struggle with friendships, emotional regulation, anxiety, or social confidence.
